The University of American Politics (UAP) is strategically located in Washington D.C. and offers undergraduate and graduate programs in political science, history and economics. Founded in 1948, the university is renowned for its ability to involve students in real life political activities and most recently, in 2008, the university created wikis and blogs for students and faculty to have forums for discussing key political events. To assist with research needs, the university library provides access to a distinguished collection of print, electronic and political ephemera resources dating back to the first presidential election in 1789. In 2008, the UAP library created a specialized digital collection devoted to the "also rans," which provides digital views and descriptions of campaign items and other related personal resources for presidential candidates who ran but did not win. This collection is a long term project with plans to digitize the library's campaign material, which dates back to the first election. Future plans will include access to information and materials from both Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates. Colophon This website was created using open source software. Joomla! was used for the Content Management System (CMS), Koha was used for the Catalog (OPAC), EPrints was used for the Digital Collections (digital repository), TikiWiki was used for the wiki, WordPress was used for the blog and Coppermine was used for the Photo Gallery. It is best viewed at a screen resolution of 1024x768 or higher, using the latest available version of Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Internet Explorer, or Safari. Individual catalog items and website graphics were created and/or digitized by the University of American Politics Library's staff. Adobe Photoshop CS and Macromedia Fireworks MX were used to manipulate JPG image files from their original size. The majority of this site uses Arial font. Basic UAP Library FAQ content obtained from University of St Andrew's website: Items in the Also-ran Digital Collection have been cataloged as if the physical originals are owned by the UAP Library. “Fair use” of these items by individuals within the UAP community and outside researchers is assumed. A statement explicitly outlining the copyright policy for the collection has been adapted from the main points made in a disclaimer from the New Hampshire Political Library website: Past Primary / New Hampshire Political Library (n.d.). Retrieved April 10, 2008, from http://www.politicallibrary.org/Past-Primary/Photo-Gallery.aspx The following Syracuse University graduate students worked as Team 1 to create this website as a final project for iSchool's Planning and Designing Digital Library Services, IST 759, Spring Semester: Gail Wiese, Jane Verostek, Ben Goldman, Jean Friestad and Philip Bahr. |
